Thos. Sawden, baptised 1817 at North Burton, was my g.g.grandmother's brother (my g.g.granduncle?). She was Adah Sawden baptised 1819 at North Burton.  I can provide a family tree back as far as Thomas Sawden (b. abt. 1671 at North Burton) but unfortunately have no info on Thomas Sawden (1817) or his marriage or offspring.

My Father (Leslie) was born in Thixendale on 4th/12/1916 to  Francis oldfield Spaven and William Spaven. William died in the Flu epidemic in 1918. I am told they lived in the cottage next door to the village pub. Other children were  Freda , Phylis, my grandmother  Francis had a nickname ( i am told ) the petticoat poacher ?

History SledmereSir Christopher Sykes inherited the Sledmere Estate in 1782. He started to accumulate land in and around Thixendale from 1786, and by 1793 was the major landowner. He created Gritts, Gills, and Manor farms in 1795.
