The accommodation is quite unique because it is let as a spacious private unit, therefore there is only one party of guests here at any one time.
The rooms, which are centrally heated throughout, are full of antique furniture and homemade patchwork quilts and quality furnishings including comfortable 'sink into' chairs, chesterfield and chaise longue, and a 'step up into' brass and iron Victorian double bed.
There is a colour television, numerous books, magazines, games, cards and jigsaws. Also tea and coffee making facilities.
Guests, especially walkers, appreciate the old deep bath and piping hot water. There is also a hairdryer. Drying facilities including the 'Sheila Maid' airer over the Aga are most useful at times!
Substantial home-cooked meals are eaten in the kitchen around the scrubbed pine table, and served at a time of the guests' choice.
The kitchen retains its character with the original York stone flags on the floor and numerous hooks in the ceiling from which our own home cooked hams and bacon hang. The Aga adds warmth as well as a traditional way of cooking.
The garden room extends from the kitchen where guests have the opportunity to enjoy breakfast if they so wish.
Packed lunches are available.
We are remembered for generous portions, and we are proud to buy produce from and support our local farmers, butchers and grocers.
The garden at Manor Farm has been created over the last 18 years by myself with a lot of help from Charles.
The garden is open for the National PICS Garden Scheme (or yellow book) the second Sunday in July every year.
I hope keen plantsmen and women will find a lot of unusual and garden worthy plants in the acre of garden. There are new projects going on all the time, I never seem to finish!
There are several splendid private gardens in the area which I could arrange for you to visit, as well as many well known beautiful gardens already open to the public.
Sledmere House, Wharram Percy, Malton, Helmsley, Castle Howard, Whitby, Burton Agnes House, Scampston Hall Walled Garden, York, Filey.
